Welcome to the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution (MERSI) Website!

Along with its research and educational foundation,The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation, the MERSI philosophy is one of sharing the knowledge, information and technology it has developed during the 30 years that I have devoted to the study and care of patients with eye disease. The training of over 100 fellows from all over the globe, bears testimony to this philosophy and to our belief in the "Never, Ever Quit" and "Do Whatever It Takes" effort to eliminate blindness in general, and from ocular inflammation in particular. But because only a limited number of Fellows can come and exploit the opportunities offered at MERSI, I decided in 1996, to use the internet, the most current, state-of-the-art medium to further the goal of sharing knowledge and information, reaching out to more physicians (especially fellow Ophthalmologists and Immunologists), residents and fellows in training, Medical Universities and Hospitals, allied health professionals and most importantly, patients.

We invite you to contribute to this Website. This is not just the MERSI Website. Just as the internet belongs to the world, so too I invite other physicians to submit educational material for electronic publication here at www.uveitis.org. And I invite patients to contribute in two ways : by sharing their questions for me publicly, in the "Ask Dr. Foster" section of the site, so that other patients might benefit from the questions and answers posted for all to see there; and by participating in the on line Support Group postings or discussions, an interactive and highly active support group system which provides information, guidance and support for patients and families alike.
